Funding Your Child's Physiotherapy

At Early Years Physiotherapy, we want accessing support for your child to feel as straightforward as possible.

One of the most common questions we hear from families is around funding. How does it work? What are we eligible for? Do we need a referral first?

The good news is that there are a number of ways families can access physiotherapy at our clinic, and you do not need a referral to get started.

NDIS

Children who are self-managed or plan-managed through the NDIS can use their funding to access physiotherapy services at Early Years Physiotherapy.

Physiotherapy may support goals relating to:

  • Gross motor development

  • Mobility

  • Strength and balance

  • Functional independence

  • Participation at home, school and in the community

  • Assistive technology assessments and therapy

If you are unsure whether physiotherapy is included in your child's NDIS plan, our team is happy to help you understand your available funding before your first appointment.

Medicare

Some children may be eligible for Medicare rebates for physiotherapy services. There are two main pathways.

Chronic Condition Management Plan (CCMP)

A Chronic Condition Management Plan is arranged through your GP and may provide Medicare rebates for eligible allied health services, including physiotherapy. Physiotherapy services under this plan are claimed using Medicare item number 10960.

Complex Neurodevelopmental Conditions and Eligible Disabilities

Some children and young people may be eligible for Medicare-funded physiotherapy when referred by a paediatrician or psychiatrist under the relevant Medicare program. Eligibility and the number of funded services will depend on your child's individual circumstances and Medicare criteria.

If you are unsure whether your child may be eligible, your GP or treating specialist will be able to advise on the most appropriate pathway.

Private Health Insurance

If your extras cover includes physiotherapy, you may be able to claim part of your consultation fee through your private health fund.

The rebate available will depend on your individual level of cover. Our clinic offers HICAPS claiming, which allows eligible rebates to be processed on the spot at the time of your appointment.

Unsure Which Funding Applies?

Every family's situation is different, and it can feel hard to know where to start.

Our team is happy to talk through the funding options that may be available for your child, including referral requirements, rebates and funding pathways, before you come in.

Please contact Early Years Physiotherapy to find out how we can support your child.
