Paediatric Bowel, Bladder and Toileting Support

Supporting healthy bladder and bowel function at every stage of childhood.

Bladder and bowel difficulties can affect children of all ages, not just those learning to use the toilet. From early toilet training to ongoing constipation and daytime wetting, these challenges can affect a child's comfort, confidence and everyday life.

At Early Years Physiotherapy, we take a whole-body approach. We look at how your child's posture, movement, breathing, body awareness, sensory needs and daily habits may be influencing their bladder and bowel function, then provide practical, personalised support.

How we can help:

Comprehensive Assessment

We take time to understand your child's bladder and bowel symptoms, development, physical skills, toileting habits and daily routines. Where helpful, a simple bladder and bowel diary can help us spot patterns and plan treatment.

Individualised Physiotherapy

Every child is different. Depending on your child's needs, sessions may include toileting position, breathing and relaxation strategies, movement-based activities, body awareness and building healthy bowel habits.

Practical Support for Families

We work alongside families to create realistic strategies that fit into everyday life. Where needed, we can work with your child's GP, paediatrician, occupational therapist and other health professionals to support coordinated care.

Paediatric Bowel, Bladder and Toileting Support

Support beyond the toilet-training years

Toileting is a skill that involves the whole body.

Bladder and bowel function involves more than knowing when to go to the toilet. Posture, breathing, movement, body awareness and healthy bowel habits all play a part.

Our service is led by physiotherapist Alana, who has completed further professional development in Treatment of the Paediatric Pelvic Floor: From Basic to Advanced, with Carina Siracusa. Alana considers these factors alongside your child's symptoms and development to find where physiotherapy can help.

If your child is experiencing constipation, wetting or ongoing bladder and bowel difficulties, please get in touch. We're happy to talk through whether our service is right for your family.

Funding options

There are a few ways families may be able to fund their child's sessions:

  • Private health insurance rebates may apply, depending on your level of cover.

  • NDIS participants may be able to use their plan funding.

  • Medicare rebates may be available with a GP Chronic Condition Management Plan (GPCCMP). Speak with your GP to see if your child is eligible.
